Before buying hosting from these companies try to find some web pages that are hosted on that server and visit them. Check out how fast these pages load at different periods during the day. If you have a high speed connection try using a dial up connection: the majority of surfers still use dial up. If the page doesn't load quickly then most likely surfers will close the page before it has finished loading...(An ideal web page should be less than 100 kb for it to load quickly)

The reason I tell you this is that many companies offer cheap hosting on very slow servers. If you just want to make a personal web page for fun then I advise you to look for free hosting.

Beware also of hosting companies that offer you cheap plans with next to nothing in bandwidth. You may end up paying for extra bandwidth and it could add up pretty fast.

Here's how to evaluate your needs in term of data transfer (bandwidth) :

For example a 80k page (html + pictures all content) that loads 100 times will use 8000k (8MB) of bandwidth dayly : 80k X 1000 = 8000k

This will make about 250 MB per month. (30 days X daily bandwidth)

What's important to consider here is how much traffic do you have on your site. 100 visitors daily is a page with no visibility! Try to estimate the number of visitors daily and how many more do you think your site will have in a few weeks.
